Couponing Lingo - A Glossary of Common Terms

If you are new to the world of couponing and frugal blogs, some of the terms may be a little strange and difficult to figure out. Here is a quick list of some of the terms you may run into and what they mean.

$1/2, $2/1 - One dollar off two products, Two dollars off 1 product

2/$1 - Two products for one dollar


$5/$20 - Five dollars off twenty dollar purchase


B1G1/BOGO - Buy one get one (usually is followed by "free" or "half off" depending on the coupon)

Catalina - Coupon that prints at checkout

CRT - Cash Register Receipt Ticket (coupon that prints on your receipt)

DND - Do not double

ECB's - Extra Care Bucks (CVS)

GM - General Mills

IP - Internet Printable Coupon

MIR - Mail in Rebate

MFR - Abbreviation for Manufacturer

OOP - Out of pocket - This refers to the amount you will actually spend at a store for your purchase.  It doesn't factor in any after purchase coupons or mail in rebates that may apply.

OYNO - On your next order - This refers to promotions like....Buy 2, Get Custom Coupon for $1.00 on your next order.  This is savings you can factor in to your purchase, although you won't see the actual savings until your next transaction.

P&G - Proctor & Gamble

RR - Register Rewards (Walgreens)

RP - Red Plum

SS - Smart Source

WYB - When you buy - Sometimes a sale or coupon only applies when you buy multiple items.
