I asked my husband if he would write something short about his perspective on couponing so I could share it with you. I LOVE what he wrote! I hope you enjoy and maybe you or your spouse can relate.
Guys, most of us want results. We want them now. Check that. We wanted them yesterday. Being a normal guy, I’ll admit I was a little impatient with my wife’s couponing at first. I expected to see drastic savings on Lori’s first shopping trip after her time of enlightenment with these thin pieces of paper gold we call coupons. Instead, I saw a steady stream of groceries flowing into the house along with another steady stream of money flowing out. Our quickly growing basement-level store, which Lori professionally called her “stockpile”, had me wondering if, and when this couponing system would really work. Trust me, though, it does work! And that is the key word – TRUST. You have to trust your wife, and mine for that matter. You have to trust the system and allow it to do its job. Fifteen months and literally thousands of dollars of savings later I can honestly tell you that if you and your family begin using coupons the way my wife does, you won’t regret it. Give it time. Trust your wife. Trust the system. Enjoy the results!
He's so right! I appreciate the opinion of our men on the subject. The words out of my husband's mouth a month after I started couponing was, "Honey, I love you but you're gonna have to buy some FOOD...I can't eat toothpaste and razors!", lol. I eventually started couponing in the grocery section but admittedly started at the drugstores, doing the drugstore game! Now, I balance both and I've found what works for our family. Give thanks to your husband for his insight!
ReplyDeleteI love this, and it makes me laugh because it all sounds so familiar. At first my husband was unsure of all this madness, but then he started helping me and now when he opens the linen closet or goes into what he calls the " grocery store" he just laughs. He took a pic of our stock pile to send to his buddy at work whose wife refuses to coupon. Thanks for all your help.
ReplyDeleteMy husband calls it our store too. :) For a while he wondered if I had just found a fun new way to shop, but not anymore!
DeleteI recently brought my husband with me on my last trip to Kroger [or Payless as it's called here] just because I wanted the company. I asked him to trust me and 45 minutes later, he did just that. He resisted his natural husband-urge to throw things we didn't need [or that I didn't have coupons for] into the cart and at the register, he saw me drop the bill from $122 down to $15, then watched as I got 4 12 packs of Coke/Pepsi for $0.14 in the next transaction. He asked me to take a picture of everything I got so he could show it off to his co-workers and friends. After a full year of couponing, I finally have a fan!
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome! What a great deal you got! Doesn't it make you feel good when your husband starts showing off your deals? Very cool!
